Bible Reflections for 3/17/08 — Encouragement #24

advertisement

Psalm 23:4

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me.

Luke 12:32

Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

1 John 4:18

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.

It is an amazing and an encouraging phenomenon that we can be surrounded by fearful circumstances, and yet we can be truly unafraid. Part of this fearlessness of the believer is due to the awesome recognition that the Lord is ever with us. Part of this extraordinary courage stems from the knowledge that the Lord has a wonderful future planned out for us, even if we must pass through some dark valleys en route. And part of the absence of dread is from the perception of the great love that constantly surrounds us. Nevertheless, it seems to be a strange and wonderful enigma that we can at the same time hold all life in highest esteem and we can also face death without fear. Perhaps this is why believers make good soldiers, good medical professionals, good risk takers, good family members, and good encouragers of others.

Best wishes, GH
